David co-founded Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes Catering with “co-David” David Haggerty in 1986. Since then, he and David have built on their success to create all the holdings in the DSquared family—including The Hall at Fauntleroy, Davids & Co., and Muse. David has worked in the restaurant industry since high school, drawn to it by his love of hospitality and teamwork.
Today, he’s the collaborative creative force behind our menu and event design, with a multicultural aesthetic shaped by his extensive traveling as a child in an Air Force family. His early appreciation for great food, shared meals and celebratory rituals still inform his work, and our whole company.
When he’s not working, David enjoys cooking (really!) with his partner Hal and friends; playing with Etta and Champ, their French Bulldogs; and dancing—though, ideally, in the center of the floor, obscured by others.
The first person to shake your hand and welcome you to a DSquared production may be David, who, with “co-David” David Meckstroth, founded Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes Catering in 1986 and built on that success to create the other holdings in the DSquared family.
From his start in the trenches of Seattle’s 1980s restaurant scene (he still dreams about working at Jonah & The Whale at the Bellevue Holiday Inn), David has honed his entrepreneurial and managerial expertise through decades of hands-on experience in the culinary industry.
Whether he’s launching a new venture or pitching in on an event, David bases everything he does on the same simple principle: guests first. Away from work, David enjoys spending time with his family, water skiing and coming up with creative ways to help DSquared staff maintain their signature enthusiasm.
He and his wife, Meg, live in Seattle, where David serves on the board of Seattle Shakespeare Company.
